Otto Hahn was an outstanding German chemist and pioneer of radiochemistry who made many important scientific discoveries during his life. He was born 8 March 1879 in Frankfurt am Main and grew up in a middle-class family. Hahn studied chemistry and obtained his doctorate in 1901. He worked as an assistant at various universities and research institutes before joining the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Chemistry in Berlin in 1906, where he later became director.

Hahn pioneered radiochemistry and made an essential contribution to research into the atomic structure. He discovered the element protactinium in 1909 and the element lutetium in 1917. His most important discovery, however, was that of nuclear fission. Together with his assistant Lise Meitner, he conducted experiments in 1938 that led to the discovery of atomic fission. This discovery is considered one of the most critical milestones in the history of physics and was a breakthrough in nuclear physics.

Otto Hahn was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1944 for his discovery of nuclear fission, but this was not announced until 1945, after the war's end. In his later years, he was a vehement critic of the military use of nuclear energy and advocated its peaceful use. He died in Göttingen on 28 July 1968.

When Mercury stands in Pisces, we can feel torn between mind and feeling. We are particularly fond of our fellow human beings, but we could neglect our interests. The Pisces Mercury strengthens our medial disposition, gives us a feeling for beauty, and makes us good listeners when our friends complain about their suffering.
