Kofi Annan
Nobel Peace Prize laureate Kofi Annan was born on 8 April 1938 in Kumasi, Ghana, and died on 18 August 2018 in Bern, Switzerland. He was a Ghanaian diplomat and the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN). Kofi Annan served two terms as Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1997 to 2006 and was highly regarded for his efforts to bring about a more peaceful and just world.
During his tenure as UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan sought to reform the organisation and strengthen its role in world politics. He played a crucial role in formulating and promoting the Millennium Development Goals, which aim to reduce poverty, hunger, disease and other global challenges by 2015. In 2001 , Kofi Annan and the United Nations were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize .
After his time at the United Nations, Kofi Annan established the Kofi Annan Foundation , which works for a more just and peaceful world by promoting good governance and sustainable development. Annan continued to act as a mediator and advisor in various international conflicts and crises and was revered for his efforts to bring peace and reconciliation to many parts of the world.
